Working at Oceania’s Leading Business Hotel

Dec 2, 2020

Denny Park at SKYCITY Nov 2020.jpgDenny graduated from PIHMS in July 2018 with a Bachelor of Applied Hospitality and Tourism Degree.

During his degree, we found Denny a paid placement working at the Grand by SKYCITY in Auckland. He was lucky enough to be re-employed by the fantastic Grand by SKYCITY team after graduation.

How have you found working at SKYCITY since graduating PIHMS?

“I can say my life after PIHMS graduation has been very positive overall. I found networking during my paid Industry Placement essential for securing a position once I graduated PIHMS.

I started my first title here as a Commissionaire in the Concierge department whilst having a casual contract with Front Office, and became fully committed to the Front Office team after a year or so. Working in two different departments helped significantly in gaining understanding of fundamental hotel operations and developing networks with both internal and external stakeholders.

I was then recommended to be part of our International Business team who are predominantly looking after our Casino VIPs from around the world”.

Due to Covid-19, Denny’s new role in the International Business team was cut short and he’s back working with the Front Office team with the Grand by SKYCITY.

“I have learnt a lot this year and one thing I can confidently share is to be grateful of what you have right now. I feel more grateful for each guest coming into our hotel who support our industry and for my colleagues who always support each other. Opportunities are still out there and better things are yet to come. Strong resilience is key for our near future, and we will all have an honour to witness how the industry rejuvenates”.

The Grand by SKYCITY recently won the award for Oceania’s Leading Business Hotel in the 2020 World Travel Awards.
