Become a Homestay Host

International students (age 16-24) come to PIHMS to improve their English Language before continuing on to study our diploma and degree courses. Full-time placement in a warm and welcoming homestay will assist them with this.

- Receive $250 a week whilst the student is with you

Requirements of a Homestay Host:

- Provide an individual/single room with a bed, linen and a lamp
- Student must have access to a study space in the home, access to a bathroom and washing facilities
- Home ideally to have unlimited data/internet available
- Drop off and pick up from PIHMS (if not in walking distance or close to bus route) Monday to Friday 9am till 4pm (can be dropped off earlier and picked up later)
- All meals or food must be provided other than lunches Monday to Friday during term time

A homestay host will ideally live nearby to PIHMS or in the New Plymouth area. Homestay Hosts are able to have more than one student with them.

To become registered as a Homestay Host for international students at PIHMS, you will be required to:
1. Complete the enquiry form below
2. Have a house visit from a PIHMS staff member
3. Submit a police check (www.police.govt.nz) - this will be organised by PIHMS and the cost covered by us too
4. Ongoing /follow up visits

Should you meet all the necessary requirements, we will then include you on our database. When we have a student who requires accommodation, we will contact you and together ascertain compatibility between both parties. Please note; being registered as a homestay with our school does not guarantee a student placement.
